You will be creating your first document type.
If you log into the Umbraco Back Office, and try to create some content, you are not able to, since there are no document types defined yet. Document types are created and managed in the Settings section of the Umbraco Back Office. As it is common throughout Umbraco, we will right click on an item to perform various actions.
*To create a document type, right click the Document Type Tree and select Create. *
We will need to give our document type a name. In this first example, you will create the document type for your Home page, which will typically be the document type you start with. When you move back to the *Content *section, you should be able to create new content.
Give your content a name, and choose the Home Page document type.
Let’s create your Home page. That’s how easy it is to create a document type, and create content based on that document type.
Let’s review this chapter.
*1. Document types are managed in the Settings section. *
*2. First define a document type, before you are able to create any content. *
This is the most important thing you need to learn about Umbraco. Understanding the concept of Document Types and how to work with them is the foundation of your Umbraco knowledge.
